Web cams at funerals
Many newspapers have recently reported the increase of web cams for assisting mourners to take part in a funeral that they cannot physically attend. For one example see the Scotsman:
In simple terms, such a facility is a clear assistance in cases of mourners being either too ill or too far away to attend but one wonders where it might end: if a funeral service is publically available via a web site the inclination in our busy lives may well move to watching a screen from home or work rather than joining the family for the camaraderie of a traditional funeral. How much is a funeral service diminished if the attendance appears to be less than anticipated?
